The Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) and its community partners will host four community clinics beginning in February in an effort to provide Douglas County residents 80 years of age and older with the COVID-19 vaccine. The four sites are being coordinated by the DCHD in partnership with Nebraska Medicine, CHI Health, Creighton University, and Methodist Health System. The clinics will continue to operate until further notice. To register for the COVID-19 vaccine, visit https://vaccinate.ne.gov.

In 1861, President Abraham Lincoln described the United States as a country “whose leading object is to elevate the condition of mankind—to lift artificial weights from all shoulders—to clear the paths of laudable pursuit for all.” Today as we celebrate 242 years of this evolving, imperfect, exceptional American experiment, I am reflecting on those words.

Great turnout today for the North Omaha Political Convention, with conversations about action on issues like voter suppression, gerrymandering, and criminal justice reform. I was honored to take the stage to talk about my priorities of high-quality public education, access to healthcare, and ensuring everyone has representation in the state legislature.

A few months ago, the Women's Center for Advancement interviewed me for their #WCAwithinreach campaign, coinciding with the opening of their beautiful new building at 38th & Harney in Omaha. Today my story went live, and you can read it on their webpage. Thank you to the WCA for offering me a platform to share my support of the important work they do, and to share why their mission is so personal to me. I will always be a champion for the WCA and the people they serve. 

We had a great time tonight at Hardy Coffee Co working on postcards to voters and preparing literature for more door knocking this week! I am so lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers--you all really gas me up to keep up the momentum! In schools, in cities, in healthcare centers, people cannot live their best lives unless they are supported by policy and practices that are based on the best information. Sofia knows this and uses her talent as a researcher, organizer, and speaker to shoulder the task of improving people's lives in measurable ways. Her findings about sexual health have spread throughout the academic community resulting in policy recommendations that affect everyday people on the ground level. She is one of those people who is working hard behind the scenes on things the rest of us think "just happen."
