It is not the role of the State Legislature to choose who my healthcare provider will be—politicians are not doctors. While Nebraska refuses to take policy measures to expand access to affordable healthcare, they continue to double down on anti-woman, anti-worker, anti-family positions by removing funding for the only access to healthcare some of us have.

A few months ago, the Women's Center for Advancement interviewed me for their #WCAwithinreach campaign, coinciding with the opening of their beautiful new building at 38th & Harney in Omaha. Today my story went live, and you can read it on their webpage. Thank you to the WCA for offering me a platform to share my support of the important work they do, and to share why their mission is so personal to me. I will always be a champion for the WCA and the people they serve. 

We had a great time tonight at Hardy Coffee Co working on postcards to voters and preparing literature for more door knocking this week! I am so lucky to have so many dedicated volunteers--you all really gas me up to keep up the momentum! My response to the 18th school shooting in the past 45 days, this tragic massacre in Parkland, Florida, struck a nerve with many people who are following my campaign. And I will address that pushback.

In schools, in cities, in healthcare centers, people cannot live their best lives unless they are supported by policy and practices that are based on the best information. Sofia knows this and uses her talent as a researcher, organizer, and speaker to shoulder the task of improving people's lives in measurable ways. Her findings about sexual health have spread throughout the academic community resulting in policy recommendations that affect everyday people on the ground level. She is one of those people who is working hard behind the scenes on things the rest of us think "just happen."

​LB 988 is a bill to create an affirmative consent standard for sexual assault. In other words, this bill changes the legal definition of consent from "no means no” a “yes means yes.” Victims will be better protected as a result of this change. This legislation is long overdue.

Please join me in supporting survivors of sex trafficking by contacting the senators on the Judiciary Committee. Ask them to protect survivors of sex trafficking and move LB 1132 to general file.
